GEORGE ANDERSON was born 16 Dec 1887 in Kinclair Cottage, Colmonell to parents Adam, assistant gardener, and Isabella Hutchison (who married in Trolodden, Girvan on 18 Nov 1886).

On 26 Apr 1911 in Mauchline, George (aged 23, rural postman, of Jamieson Place, Mauchline) married Elizabeth W. Lambie (aged 28, boxworker).  His father is deceased, and his brother Adam is a witness.

In the 1891 Census, George, aged 3, is living Causewayhead, Fairlie with parents Adam (32, b. Sorn, gardener) and mother Isabella (31, b. Kirkmichael)

In the 1901 Census, aged 13, he is living 10 Mid Row, Fairlie with parents Adam (42, b. Sorn, gardener) and mother Isabella (41, b. Kirkmichael), and siblings Adam (8, scholar, b. Fairlie) and William (11, scholar, b. Largs)

Post Office records show that George was appointed as a rural postman in Mauchline in 1906, and in the 1911 Census he is aged 23, a postman, boarding at Jamieson Place, Mauchline.   The 1915 Valuation Rolls show George Anderson, postman, occupier/tenant at Loan, Mauchline.    


SERVICE DETAILS

No medal index card has been found, but his regiment is given as ‘S.H.’ on the Roll of Honour (possibly Seaforth Highlanders or Scottish Horse)
