JONES ARMSTRONG DOUGLASborn 08 Jun 1879 in Fairlie, to parents Peter, an
agricultural labourer and Ann McDonald (who married in
Strachur on 28 Dec 1868). He died of an aneurysm on 21 July 1938 at
home at Sunnyside, Alloway, Ayr (aged 57, widower,
fruit farm accountant, informant his son-in-law). He is also named on the Alloway Village Hall roll of honour.
He married Colinea Smith in Ayr in 1909.
In the 1881 Census, William, aged 1, is living Mid Row, Fairlie, with parents Peter (42, b. Strathlachlan, Argyll, general labourer) and Ann (37, b. Strachur, Argyll) and siblings Donald (10), James J (8), Peter (7) and Archd (5).
In the 1891 Census, aged 11, he is living Bay Houses, Strachur, Argyll in household of James McDonald (81, joiner/crofter), possibly his grandfather. His parents and siblings are at Kelburn N. Lodge, Fairlie.
In the 1901 Census, aged 20, he is a railway clerk, and is living at 160 High Street, Dalbeattie. His parents Peter (64, and brothers Robert (18) and Duncan (13) are at Kelburn North Lodge, Fairlie. In the 1911 Census, he is aged 29 and a law clerk, living 80 Sandygate Street, Ayr with wife Colinea (20) and daughter Colinea McD (m).
SERVICE DETAILS No medal index card has been found, but his regiment is given as ‘S.R.’ on the Roll of Honour (possibly Scottish Rifles, Cameronians)
