Named in the Largs & Millport Weekly News Roll of Honour of enlisted men printed 21 Nov 1914 and in the Ardrossan & Saltcoats Roll of Honour printed Dec 1914 (MacLachlan, Gr., J., Allanton Park Terrace, Fairlie, Bute Mountain Battery).  Medal index card shows he enlisted 04 Aug 1914 and was discharged 15 Apr 1919; first theatre of war entered was Balkans on 25 Apr 1915; and that he received the Silver War Badge, 1914-15 Star and the British War and Victory medals.  Silver War Badge list shows he was aged 27 upon discharge in Apr 1919.
