DANIEL STALKER was born was born 02 Oct 1885 in Woodside Cottage, West Kilbride, to parents Gilbert, railway labourer, and Hannah Wilson (who were married in West Kilbride on 21 Feb 1882).  He died of emphysema on 05 Dec 1961 at 1 Loanhead Street, Coatbridge (aged 76, cemetery superintendent ret., married).  

On 05 Aug 1909 at Wheatsheaf Rooms, 263 Paisley Road, Glasgow, Daniel (aged 23, railway surfaceman, of Railway Buildings, Fairlie) married Jessie M. Carmichael.  

In the 1901 Census, Daniel, aged 15 and a grocers message boy, is living 1 Railways Buildings with parents Gilbert (41, b. West Kilbride, railway surfaceman) and Hannah (43, b. West Kilbride) and siblings Hannah (18), Jessie (16), Margt (13), Agnes C (11), Quintin (9), Christina (7) and Archibald (4)  

In the 1911 Census, he is aged 25, a platelayer (railway), married, living at Corona Place, Fairlie (his wife recorded in Glasgow)   1912-1915 Valuation Roll has Daniel Stalker, railway surfaceman, Corona Place, Fairlie    

No medal index card was found, but his regiment is given on the plaque as ‘R.E.’ (Royal Engineers?)
