DUGALD STEWART was born 29 Jan 1875 in Achanadown, Lismore, Argyll, to parents Dugald, apprentice mason, and Bell Black (who were married in Lismore on 29 May 1894).  He died of influenza/cardiac failure at home at Kelburnfoot, Fairlie on 27 Nov 1925 (aged 50, gardener’s labourer,  married).  

He married Mary Martin on 19 Oct 1904 at Tighnabruich; they had three children John Martin (b. Kilfinnan 5/12/02), Isabella Black (b. Kilfinnan 5/1/06) and Archibald Martin (b. Kelburnfoot 12/7/10)  

In the 1911 Census, aged 36, he’s a farm labourer, living Kelburn South Offices with wife Mary (35, b. Kilfinnan, m 7 years, 3 children) and children John (8), Isabella (5) and Archibald (8m)  

1912 Valuation Roll has Dugald Stewart, garden labourer, South Offices, Kelburn  

1913-1915 Valuation Roll has Dugald Stewart, labourer, Kelburnfoot Cottage 2  

1920 Valuation Roll has Dugald Stewart, gardener (soldier), inhabitant at Kelburnfoot Cottage No. 2    


Attested 03 Dec 1915 (age 40, occ. gardener’s labourer, next of kin wife).  Posted R.A.M.C. 6th Training Battalion on 25 Jun 1918; posted R.A.M.C. Depot 30 Jul 1918;  demobilized 8 Mar 1919.
